In addition to Arijon Ibrahimović, FC Augsburg also completed the signing of Juma Bah at the end of the summer transfer window. Read on to learn more about the promising young centre-back.

Bah’s official presentation after signing for FCA featured a special message from none other than Gibril Sankoh. The former Augsburg defender featured in 31 Bundesliga and 31 second-division games for the club between 2010 and 2013. Sankoh had been the first and only player from Sierra Leone to feature in the Bundesliga, with Bah now set to follow in his footsteps.

Bah was born in Freetown in 2006 and is seen as one of the most promising young players of his generation. He moved from AIK Freetong to Real Valladolid during the 2024/25 season, making 12 appearances in LaLiga for the club. Manchester City then signed the centre-back for a fee of nearly €6 million in winter 2025, signalling the untapped potential they saw in Bah.

Match practice during loan spells in France

Bah was then able to amass valuable match practice at a high level during a stint on loan at Ligue 1 sides RC Lens and OGC Nice. He featured in 51 competitive games combined for both clubs, including six Europa League matches in this timeframe.

The move to FC Augsburg will see Bah feature in yet another of Europe’s Top 5 leagues, as he brings a wealth of experience to the table. At 1.95 metres tall, the defender is not only an imposing physical presence on the pitch, but can also feature in a back-three and a back-four. He has also been capped seven times at senior level for Sierra Leone.

“We have been able to sign a talented player in Juma, whose physicality, height and qualities are a good match for us,” said Benni Weber, FCA’s sporting director. “Despite his young age, he has already been able to amass plenty of experience at the highest level in Europe.”

Bah is also looking forward to his time in Augsburg, saying, “FCA are a club where young players are able to grow and develop. That’s why this move represents the logical next step for me.”
