1-0 defeat to SK Dynamo České Budějovice

Late goal for the Czech side

First Team 13.07.2022, 20:05

FC Augsburg have been preparing for the new season at a training camp at the Kaiser Mountains, presented by Flow Sports. The Fuggerstädter played their fourth friendly of pre-season on Wednesday evening in Kössen against SK Dynamo České Budějovice and suffered their first defeat so far.

Niklas Dorsch got his first minutes of pre-season alongside Carlos Gruezo in centre midfield. New signing Ermedin Demirović started on the bench. Overall, head coach Enrico Maaßen used 22 outfield players. Rafał Gikiewicz and Tomáš Koubek played a half each in goal.

Despite some intensive training sessions over the last few days, FCA looked to press their opponents early. The Czech first-division side remained compact and didn’t allow Augsburg’s attackers many opportunities. Due to the hot weather, the teams had a quick drinks break after 25 minutes. Shortly afterwards, Maurice Malone got on the end of a long ball, but Dynamo defender Martin Králik cleared the danger at the last minute (33’). Gikiewicz then saved a shot from Jakub Hora just before half time (43’).

Demirović makes his debut – Vais scores a volley

Fresh legs were introduced for the second half by Maaßen. In the 57th minute, André Hahn did well in the penalty area, however his pacey delivery across the six-yard box didn’t find anyone. Ricardo Pepi was forced wide after getting into a good position in front of goal (59’). Demirović came on to replace Florian Niederlechner for his FCA debut up front.

Meanwhile, it looked like a goal was coming for FCA. Pepi was kept out by goalkeeper Martin Janáček’s left foot (72’) and Augsburg soon rued their missed chances. A cross from the right found the unmarked Jonáš Vais in the centre and he volleyed the ball into the bottom left corner (79’). Maaßen’s team pushed forward in search of equaliser, but it wasn’t to be on the day.

As a result, it ended 1-0 to SK Dynamo České Budějovice. FCA’s next friendly is on Sunday, 17th July (16:00 CEST) in Wattens against Al Duhail SC. Fabio Gruber, Mahmut Kücüksahin and Henri Koudoussou will no longer be part of the squad by then. They will return to the U23s for the start of their league season on Saturday. 16-year-old academy player Mert Kömür has arrived at the training camp instead.

FCA: Gikiewicz (46’ Koubek) – Bauer (80’ Gruber), Gouweleeuw (46’ Framberger), Uduokhai (46’ Winther) – Pedersen (46’ Gumny), Gruezo (46’ Götze/80’ Kücüksahin), Dorsch (46’ Caligiuri), Iago (46’ Zehnter/80’ Mbila) – Jensen (46’ Hahn), Niederlechner (60’ Demirović), Malone (46’ Pepi)

Goal: 0-1 Vais (80')
