Wagner: “Get things back on track”
Home to Wolfsburg
Matchday 6 in the Bundesliga is right around the corner, as FCA look to make amends for their latest loss against Heidenheim with a win against VfL Wolfsburg.
Head coach Sandro Wagner didn’t mince his words following his side’s two previous defeats (4-1 to Mainz and 2-1 to Heidenheim): “We’ve had two really bad games – I’m not going to sugar-coat it.” Wagner is determined to achieve success after an intense week of training: “On Saturday, we have the chance to get things back on track. The boys know that they’ve got another opportunity to prove themselves now.”
Wagner’s side are also looking to end their nearly seven-month wait for a home win, the last of which came – ironically – against Wolfsburg in March. “We absolutely both want and need to change that,” said Wagner. A win in this game would be especially good, as it would both end the team’s poor run of form and mean that FCA can leapfrog Wolfsburg in the table.
Wolfsburg travel to Augsburg without a win in their last four games, having lost two of those narrowly (1-0 to both Dortmund and Leipzig). Wagner noted that Wolfsburg are still finding themselves out, but have “individually brilliant players”.
Rieder available
Wagner announced that there would be changes to the starting XI. Captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw will miss out again through injury after tearing his MCL in the game against Mainz last month. Fabien Rieder is fit and available despite having to stop training early on Tuesday. Arne Maier (a cold) has been ruled out and there are one or two more players out injured. Kick-off in the WWK ARENA is set for 15:30 CEST on Saturday, 4th October.
