Schmidt: "We have to score in the next few matches"

First Team 08.03.2020, 12:05

Despite a strong performance away from home to the record champions, FCA were beaten 2-0. "Today we saw that the mentality was right," said Martin Schmidt, analysing the game. All the reaction below:

Florian Niederlechner: "It’s a very disappointing defeat, we played well. It was an open game and I had the big chance to equalise, unfortunately I couldn’t put it away. Today’s performance gives us courage, however. We want to make it count next week at home."

Andreas Luthe: "It was a good away game – the result is hard to take right now, but I was very happy to be back on the pitch with the lads, they made it easy for me as well. I had very little to do in the first half, that changed after the break. It’s gutting that our performance wasn’t enough for a point. We want to take all three against Wolfsburg next weekend."

Raphael Framberger: "On the whole, we can’t be fully satisfied – a point would have been good. It’s obviously hard against Bayern, but we had our chances towards the end. Unfortunately they came to nothing and Bayern won the game, deservedly. Next week we have to play well again and have to win."

Martin Schmidt: "If you want to take points off of Bayern, you have to keep the game open for a long time. We were able to do this very well in the first half, as we let them have barely any chances. After the break, we conceded, which meant to get back into the game we had to take more risks. Around 10 minutes from the final whistle we had the chance to equalise, but Florian Niederlechner was denied. Superior quality won out in the end. It was pretty gutting, but the grim reality is that we have only taken four points from our last eight games in the Rückrunde. We have to score in the next couple of games. We know this and we want to make this happen. I am confident that we can get back to winning ways in the next few matches.”

Hansi Flick: “We knew before the game that playing against Augsburg was going to be a difficult one. The first half proved that prediction right, as Augsburg had a lot of the space. In the second half we had multiple chances, and the first goal was great. But we failed to turn the corner fully, and let Augsburg have more chances to score. The big chance at the end was luckily turned behind by Manuel Neuer. Ultimately, we got the three points today, which is what we wanted.”
