Baum: “We are disappointed”

First Team 26.01.2019, 21:54
FC Augsburg have fallen to a late 2-0 away defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, the first goal for the Foals proved to be quite controversial and the biggest talking point of the match. Here is the post match reaction. Gregor Kobel: We didn’t attack enough over the course of the match. I think we need to be more dangerous in front of goal. Gladbach dominated and deserved to win the match, even if we defended with everything we had. We return to Augsburg empty handed and are obviously disappointed with the result. I should’ve cleared the ball further in the build-up to Gladbach’s first goal. However, there was a clear offside in my opinion as the player behind me interfered with play.” André Hahn: We knew today’s match would be really difficult and we wanted to defend well and remain compact. In the first half, we benefited from a stroke of luck on a couple of occasions. Then in the second half, we played well for large periods and kept our clean sheet until near the end. Overall, we didn’t create enough chances to take something from the match.” Manuel Baum: “We were lucky on a couple of occasions in the first half, especially regarding the penalty. After half-time, we tried to take the game to Gladbach. It is inexplicable to concede in the way we did. The referee didn’t give a clear offside as you cannot interfere with play from an offside position. This is really disappointing, especially with how well we fought today. We deserved to take a point from the match today.” Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Dieter Hecking: “Today’s victory was fully deserved. We created five clear chances to score against an Augsburg side who held a deep line in defence. We weren’t patient after half-time and were exploited a couple of times on the counter. We did however manage to find the breakthrough late on. However, I can see why Manuel was aggrieved with the decision for the goal to stand. If today’s match ended goalless, we would’ve taken a point but this shows what our team can do. They were rewarded for their patience today.”
