Manuel Baum to remain FCA head coach
Contract extended until 2028
After FC Augsburg finished last season in ninth place, talks were held with head coach Manuel Baum over the club’s future plans. The outcome of those discussions is that both parties want to continue working together under the same arrangement. Baum’s contract as head coach has therefore been extended by two years until 30th June 2028.
“Once we had established in our talks that Manuel was still available for the head coach role and keen to continue on this path, it was clear to us that we wanted to make that happen. Manuel has done a very good job as head coach in every respect over the past few months, so we’re delighted that he will be continuing in this position,” explained FCA CEO Michael Ströll.
Sporting director Benni Weber added: “Manuel and the coaching staff turned things around during a difficult period in autumn 2025. A strong second half of the season also saw us achieve the third-best Bundesliga finish in FCA history. We’re convinced that this arrangement gives us a very good foundation for a successful future together.”
Baum: “Working with the team every day is hugely enjoyable”
“Even though the plans surrounding my role as Head of Development & Football Innovation were different, working with the team, staff and coaches every day over the past few months has been so hugely enjoyable that I’m very keen to continue on the path we’ve started together. I’m looking forward to the tasks ahead after the summer break,” said head coach Manuel Baum.
Alongside head coach Manuel Baum, Alexander Frankenberger, Frank Fröhling and Felix Kling will continue in their roles as assistant coaches, while Benedikt Brust will remain FCA’s match and video analyst. Michael Weirich, 43, completes the coaching team as goalkeeper coach.
FCA will take its time in holding talks over the newly created and currently vacant Head of Development & Football Innovation position as the club looks for the best possible solution.
