Kade: “Off to a good start”

The reaction to the home win against FC Schalke 04

First Team 30.08.2026, 20:50

FC Augsburg started the new season in style with a 3-0 victory over promoted side FC Schalke 04. Read all the reaction to the win here.

Michael Gregoritsch: “We played well and were focussed from the get-go. Over the whole match, we constantly had chances to put our stamp on the game, and we were set up very well by the coach. Above all, we did the things that made us stand out well – winning balls, countering quickly and being aggressive in the tackle. There are always areas where we can improve but on the whole, it was a good start to the new season for us.”

Anton Kade: “We kept a clean sheet and scored three goals – it goes without saying that we’re off to a good start. Today, a lot of things came together well – we worked well as a team and did what we set out to do. Of course, there are things we can improve, but overall things are going really well.”

Finn Dahmen: “It was a tough game, since Schalke still had the wind in their sails from getting promoted last season. Still, we did a good job right from the first minute. The most important thing for us was keeping a clean sheet. Schalke are a very physical side, but we came into the game ready to fight and were the better side for the duration of the match.”

Hennes Behrens: “It was really fun and we’re proud of our performance. The team was really welcoming with me, and my style of play suits the team. The fact that it was the coach’s birthday means that the win is an extra-special present. All in all, it was a strong performance, and we want to take this feeling with us into the next game.”

Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “The first half was pretty even, but then we got better and better as the game went on and deservedly took the lead. In the second half, we could’ve actually scored the goal to make it 2-0 earlier. But we remained organised and continued to do our thing quietly – I was really happy about that, even when we had an extra player. It was also great to see that we can bring on more quality from the bench and that the boys slotted into the team straight away. On the whole, I’m happy with the performance and the result.”

Miron Muslić (FC Schalke 04 head coach): “Congratulations to FC Augsburg on a well-deserved win. We played well, especially in the first half, and created three or four big opportunities. In moments like those, though, you’ve got to take your chances, because Augsburg have the quality to threaten the scoreline themselves. It’s a learning experience for us and a step in our development that we have to take together as a team.”
