FC Augsburg are taking care of business before the start of the new season, which sees them face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). Alfred Finnbogason’s contract extension is just one example. The Icelandic international, who has been at the club since 2016, has signed a new contract until 2022. “I’ve been at this club for more than three years now and despite a few injuries, it’s been the best period of my career to date. Both my children were born in Augsburg and we’re very settled in this city. Therefore I jumped at the chance to extend my time here,” explained Finnbogason. “It’s a really good sign that Alfred Finnbogason believes in our system and that he sees his future here at the club. His goal scoring record speaks for itself and he will really help us get results in future matches,” said Stefan Reuter, Augsburg sporting director. “Having signed Finnbogason to this extension, we now go into the season with no expiring contracts to worry about. Now we can focus on what’s really important.” Alfred Finnbogason has 67 Bundesliga appearances to his name thus far, scoring 32 goals and assisting 9 times.
