After scoring in the 4-1 home win over VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, Reece Oxford has now found the net three times in his last four competitive games. Just a few days later, the defender has now signed a contract extension running until 30th June 2025, after his original deal was due to expire in June 2023.

“I have felt at home in Augsburg since joining FCA and I’ve massively improved as a footballer here,” stressed Reece Oxford, who joined the club on a permanent basis from West Ham United in summer 2019, having previously been on loan from London for six months. “I believe that I’ve not yet reached my full potential and that FCA is the right club for me. Everyone here has placed so much trust and belief in me,” explained the 22-year-old. “I’m therefore really pleased to have extended my contract until 2025.”

Oxford has played 53 times in the Bundesliga for FCA, scoring two goals. The tall defender has been a regular this term at the back, playing the full 90 minutes on nine occasions. Prior to his goal against Stuttgart, he also netted against Arminia Bielefeld (1-1) and in the DFB-Pokal at VfL Bochum (2-2 a.e.t., 5-4 loss on penalties).

“Reece has become a real key player for us,” praised sporting director Stefan Reuter. “He’s both important for our defence and for our set pieces at the other end too, where he’s extremely dangerous. We were already convinced of his potential when we signed him in 2019. As a result of this belief, we already started discussions about a new contract after last season finished, and we’re really happy that Reece has now committed himself to FCA.”

Oxford played for all of England’s youth sides from the U16s upwards, winning 35 caps and scoring one goal.
