Finn Dahmen nach der Niederlage in Hoffenheim

Dahmen: “We let them get the better of us today”

Post-match reaction to the 3-0 defeat away at Hoffenheim

FC Augsburg came away empty-handed on matchday 12, finding themselves 3-0 down by half-time away against Hoffenheim. Here is the reaction to the game.

Anton Kade: “The first half simply wasn’t good enough. We didn’t play with enough energy. We were actually well prepared for how Hoffenheim play, but we didn’t manage to bring that onto the pitch. We were sharper after the break, but in the end we didn’t do enough to deserve a goal.”

Elvis Rexhbecaj: “Once again, we weren’t able to build on a win after defeating HSV last time out. Hoffenheim just wanted it more, and as FC Augsburg that should never be the case. Even though we were more aggressive in the second half, our performance wasn’t good enough. Losing 3-0 is a real blow, but now we’ve got a home match coming up. Leverkusen will be an incredibly tough opponent, but at home we need to keep on picking up points.”

Finn Dahmen: “We let them get the better of us today. In the first half we barely managed to do anything we’d set out to do. Hoffenheim were better in all regards. We did improve a bit afterwards, but when you’re 3-0 down at half-time in the Bundesliga, it’s always going to be difficult. It felt like Hoffenheim wanted it that bit more and that just wasn’t good enough from us today. We need to step it up again next week.

Sandro Wagner (FC Augsburg head coach): “First of all, congratulations to Hoffenheim. Of course we’re disappointed. We’d set ourselves clear goals and worked hard throughout the week to prepare as well as possible for their style of play. We knew they were in good form and wanted to approach a lot of things differently. We didn’t manage that. In the first 25 minutes we more or less ruined everything for ourselves. Coming back from 3-0 down here is obviously difficult, even if the second half was better. Hoffenheim wanted it more today, and we have to take responsibility for that.”

Christian Ilzer (TSG Hoffenheim head coach): “I told the team that we want to play exciting football without forgetting the basics. Especially in the first half everyone pulled together and we were rewarded with three goals. We’ve now won five of our last six games and we’re very pleased with that. We want to keep going in this direction.”
