FCA to host Swabian XI in special pre-season match
Opening friendly at the Rosenau
FC Augsburg will begin their summer preparations with a special friendly. On Saturday, 18th July, FCA will take on a select Swabian XI at the Rosenaustadion, with kick-off at 14:00 CEST. The team will be put together jointly by the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) and the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper (AZ).
The select side will be coached by former FCA striker Sascha Mölders, who was most recently head coach at SC Wiedenbrück. He will be assisted by another former Augsburg man in Zdenko Miletić, with the coaching team completed by a BFV association coach.
Squad places decided by AZ vote
The Swabian XI will have an 18-man squad in total. The BFV will call up 13 players from Swabian clubs between the fourth-tier Regionalliga and the seventh-tier Landesliga, while the remaining five places will be decided by readers of the Augsburger Allgemeine in an online vote. Supporters will be able to select two defenders and three attacking players.
The AZ sports desk and the BFV have nominated further players from Swabian Landesliga clubs for the vote, which opens on the Augsburger Allgemeine website on Thursday, 2nd July and will run for one week.
FCA managing director Michael Ströll is looking forward to the occasion: “A game at the Rosenau is always something special. Starting pre-season there against a Swabian XI put together jointly by the Bavarian Football Association and the Augsburger Allgemeine gives the fixture a real extra appeal for the whole region.”
