1-1 draw vs. Regensburg – FCA equalise late on

Löwen scores from the spot

First Team 29.08.2020, 19:06

After FCA won their first friendly on Saturday 5-2 against Altach, Heiko Herrlich’s side drew 1-1 against SSV Jahn Regensburg to maintain their unbeaten pre-season record.

Heiko Herrlich gave a start to Tomáš Koubek, with Noah Sarenren Bazee, Fredrik Jensen, André Hahn and Florian Niederlechner playing further forward for FCA.

Augsburg had several early chances in the opening 15 minutes, but couldn’t convert any of them. FCA had more possession and were dangerous on the wings, while Regensburg’s only early moments of note came from corners.

Hahn denied twice by Meyer

A Philipp Max cross was met by André Hahn in the 25th minute, however he was denied by Regensburg’s goalkeeper Meyer. The Bundesliga 2 side then broke the deadlock themselves. A loss of possession by FCA saw Regensburg counter quickly and Kaan Caliskaner was played in behind. He stayed cool one-on-one with Koubek and gave Jahn the lead with a low finish (35’).

Hahn came close to equalising five minutes after FCA went behind – Meyer was once again his nemesis though. Augsburg’s shotstopper Koubek then had a chance to impress, making an impressive stop from close range from a corner.  He stayed cool one-on-one with Koubek and gave Jahn the lead with a low finish (35’).

Augsburg made one change for the second half: Mads Petersen replaced Philipp Max. As FCA looked to step things up, Noah Sarenren Bazee narrowly missed the Regensburg target in the 49th minute. Löwen then had a shot saved from a few yards out, before Koubek parried a free-kick at the other end.

Felix Götze, who was back involved for the first time after recovering from Covid-19, replaced Tobias Strobl in the 62nd minute. Herrlich’s team looked to create chances from the wings, although they were continuously denied by the impressive Weidinger in the Regensburg goal.

Löwen equalises from the spot

Löwen equalises from the spotAugsburg’s hard work finally paid off towards the end of the game. Niederlechner was running towards goal after a nice pass and the Regensburg ‘keeper brought him down with his feet in the area. Eduard Löwen stepped up and buried the penalty to restore parity (80’). Both teams pushed for a winner, but neither could find a winning goal, so it ended 1-1 in Heimstetten.

Line-up: Koubek – Max, Suchý, Oxford, Hahn – Civeja, Strobl, Jensen, Sarenren Bazee, Löwen - Niederlechner
