New arrival Tobias Strobl made his second start this season in Saturday’s 3-1 victory against 1. FSV Mainz 05. In an interview with FCA TV, the 30-year-old discusses the win against the Zerofivers, settling into Augsburg, and the upcoming home game against Hertha BSC.

Following two defeats on the bounce in previous league games, FCA returned to winning ways on Saturday with the third victory of the season against Mainz. Despite the positive result, Stobl could see some areas for improvement in the performance on Saturday. “The result was a good one but we had a phase where we gave away the goal too easily,” analyses the midfielder. “In the end we recovered and went on to get the three points, but the match was closer than the scoreline suggests.”

The victory came courtesy of an André Hahn brace late on in the game. “He’s so good at that,” praises Strobl of his teammate, who he knows well thanks to their time together at Gladbach. “He always gives his all for the team and you can see that reflected in the distance he runs every match. Of course, we want him to continue on playing like this.”

Strobl: “Taking the next step in our development as a team”

This was the second time the 30-year-old has been in Heiko Herrlich’s starting XI this campaign. However, he still doesn’t think he has hit 100%. “There’s still room for improvement in my game and I’d like to develop certain aspects further,” says the midfielder. “I’m glad I’m getting back into the swing of things and getting minutes under my belt. The team have been welcoming and I feel very settled in here.”

Next up for FC Augsburg is Hertha BSC on Saturday, 7th November (15:30 CET). “They certainly had higher expectations,” says Strobl of the Old Lady, who haven’t lived up to their standards so far this season. “But when they hit their stride out on the pitch, they’re a very strong side. I hope that we can take the next step in our development as a team and get rid of the mistakes from the game against Mainz. We want to keep improving.”
