As FC Augsburg prepare for the new season with a training camp in Walchsee, there’s some good news to announce on the personnel front: the club has extended the contract of goalkeeper Rafał Gikiewicz. The 33-year-old Pole initially had a deal until 30th June 2022, which has now been extended by one year until 30th June 2023. There is also the option for an additional year.

“With this extension, we are happy that we can keep some stability at the goalkeeper position over the years to come. Rafał was a strong backstop for the team during the season just gone. He has huge ambition and there are still plenty of things he wants to achieve with FC Augsburg,” said sporting director Stefan Reuter.

“I feel right at home with my family here in Augsburg, as well as at this club, so FCA was always my first port of call. I am really looking forward to continuing my time here because it's always been a big dream of mine to play in front of our fantastic fans at a sold-out WWK ARENA,” said Gikiewicz himself.

Last season, Gikiewicz was one of just six players to play every second in the Bundesliga - a whopping 3,060 minutes over the 34 matches. He also led the league with 129 saves.
