Niederlechner: “Want to take our chances”

An interview with the striker

First Team 17.11.2020, 16:54

Florian Niederlechner got on the scoresheet in FC Augsburg’s 4-1 friendly win against Karlsruher SC last week. Now, with the focus on Saturday’s Bundesliga game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (21st Nov., 15:30 CET), the striker speaks about the international break and the game against the Foals.

According to Florian Niederlechner, the team were able to take “several positives” from the friendly against KSC. After recovering from a stomach muscle injury, the striker played the full 90 minutes last Thursday and managed to impress. Niederlechner rounded KSC goalkeeper Markus Kuster and scored to make it 3-0 in the 30th minute.

The team had the weekend off due to the international break, which came at a good time for the 30-year-old. “We were happy to have some time off,” he said. “We’ll be playing almost constantly after Christmas, with the next international break only taking place in March.” FCA have a jam-packed schedule ahead of them, with seven games in the five weeks leading up to Christmas.

Niederlechner: “We want to do a lot better”

With 10 points from their first seven games, FCA are currently in the upper half of the table. “We had a tough run of fixtures to start, playing nearly all of the top six, with the exception of Bayern,” he said. Niederlechner admitted that the side hadn’t delivered their best performance against Hertha in a 3-0 loss last time out. “Now, we have a tough game ahead of us in Gladbach, where we want to do a lot better,” he said.

The striker described the upcoming opponents as “a really strong team with a lot of individual quality.” Niederlechner was particularly impressed with Borussia’s 6-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. “It was impressive what they managed to bring to the pitch there,” he added. The Foals may go into the game as the favourites, “but, we also managed to beat Dortmund,” Niederlecher said, adding: “We have a chance, which we’re looking to take.”
