Manuel Baum: "Very happy with our point"

First Team 31.03.2018, 20:10
FC Augsburg come away from Leverkusen after a gritty and passion-fuelled performance. After all was said and done, the game ended 0-0. Read on for all the reaction to the game. Rani Khedira: “The draw was the correct result by the end of it all, as we fought really hard. It’s not easy to keep the unquestioned quality that Leverkusen possess in check for the whole game. They put pressure on us, but didn’t get anything from it. Perhaps there were a few times when we could have done better with the ball ourselves.” Marwin Hitz: “To keep a clean sheet in Leverkusen is a great result. Our strikers ran relentlessly and we defended as a team extremely well. We were lacking a bit of precision now and then in attack, although the most important thing is that we didn’t concede. You can’t defend against everything when you play Leverkusen.” Philipp Max: “We wanted to put in the same sort of performance as we did in Dortmund. We pressed them very well and managed to earn a point against a very strong Leverkusen side. We now look forward to playing Bayern at home, when we’ll need to bring another impressive performance.” Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We played very well today and deserved our point. We dealt with the early loss of our captain Daniel Baier effectively too and stayed defensively organised enough to not concede.” Manuel Baum: “We earned a point today against a very tough opponent. We didn’t have much of a spark going forward, but the draw was deserved when all was said and done. We won the ball back regularly, although we couldn’t quite do enough with those opportunities. But I can’t complain, because we're travelling back home very happy with our point.” Heiko Herrlich: “The draw feels like a loss. We dominated and had everything under control, but we just lacked the clinical nature you need in the final third. Augsburg looked to cause us problems, but we defended against them very well until they started to pull back and defend. It was an okay performance, but these are two points that we’ve let slip.”
