Herrlich: "We are disappointed to have lost"

Reaction to defeat in Bremen

First Team 16.01.2021, 18:53

After two late goals brought a 2-0 defeat to SV Werder, FC Augsburg make the journey back home with no points to show for their efforts in Bremen. “It was a bad game that should have been 0-0, but we’re going home with nothing,” said head coach Heiko Herrlich. Read the reaction to the match here.

Rani Khedira: "We were in total control in the first half and Bremen just wanted to wait for the counter-attack. We prevented that well, though. I don’t know why we were unable to be as effective in the second half. Bremen created pressure and we lost the discipline that had stood out in the first half. We took six points against Union and Dortmund to start the season and we should remember that ahead of the big games that are coming up.”

Alfred Finnbogason: "In the first 60 minutes we were well on top and had control of the match without creating big chances. It was a game that was going to be won by the team who scored the opening goal and unfortunately that was Bremen. In the Bundesliga you can rise up the table fast, but you can slip down just as quickly. After two losses in a row we have to watch out and get back to winning ways.”

André Hahn: "It was a decent game in the first half, we were patient but without having clear-cut chances. Thanks to the control we had in the first half, we were confident heading into the second period, but we gave away the goals too easily and lost the match.”

Reece Oxford: "I had the biggest chance of the game but I didn’t make the right connection with the corner and only caught it with my shoulder. If we had gone in front there then we would have had a good chance to win the game. Unfortunately Bremen, who also had very few chances, took their two opportunities in the end.”

Heiko Herrlich: "We are disappointed that we lost this match because we had complete control in the first half, without creating any notable opportunities. We wanted to set up with that same discipline in the second half. We had the big chance to take the lead with the Reece Oxford header, but we didn’t take it. Then the thing that we desperately wanted to avoid happened; we let ourselves get drawn out and we gave Bremen room. There was a string of errors that led to the goal we conceded. It was a bad game that should have been 0-0, really, but we’re going home with nothing.”
