FC Augsburg drew 1-1 against 1. FC Köln after a turbulent final few minutes. “It was good that we rallied ourselves after falling behind and that we were able to salvage a point,” analysed Heiko Herrlich after the game.

Florian Niederlechner: “We were the better side across the whole 90 minutes. A point is important for both sides, but of course we wanted to win. I’m really frustrated with my missed penalty. I normally put it to the right – it was a spontaneous decision. Mistakes are part of football. I’ve been the hero a few times, whereas today I’m definitely not. Now we need to dust ourselves down and go again.”

Philipp Max: “I was pleased to be back. We played really well in the first half, but couldn’t manage a goal. The second half was even, and scoring at the end was extremely important. It was important not to lose today. I’m really pleased about my goal, especially as it helped the team out. I gave everything I could today.”

Alfred Finnbogason: “We were desperate for the three points today – that was clear from the way we played. We dominated the first half and had chances to go ahead. We then found ourselves 1-0 down – that’s just football. We’re pleased that we got an equaliser. We’ll take the point, even if we wanted more. We’ve now got an extremely important game in Mainz.”

Heiko Herrlich: "We started well. We dominated our opponents and had several dangerous opportunities off corners, free-kicks, and of course the penalty. We had plenty of chances to take the lead. We defended well and allowed our opponents few chances. In my opinion, the scene after the break when Noah Sarenren Bazee was sandwiched and then kicked on the foot was a clear penalty. But, we have to accept some of the blame, as we failed to take advantage of our chances. We weren't as dominant during the second half. However, it was good that we rallied ourselves after falling behind and that we were able to salvage a point."

Markus Gisdol: “It was a game of two halves. Augsburg were very aggressive and played well in the first half. We had a few difficulties and Timo Horn kept us in the game. We spoke about a few things at the break and that helped. We got the goal just before the end, so I had hoped that we would take the three points. We went on to concede the equaliser. I think a point is a fair result after the two different halves. We will settle for that.”
