André Hahn came off the bench to score in the 3-1 win over 1. FC Union Berlin on the opening matchday and was rewarded with a place in the starting XI for the subsequent games against Borussia Dortmund (2-0) and VfL Wolfsburg (0-0). The attacker spoke about the fans, Augsburg’s current run and the international break. 

Things are going well for FCA so far this season. The club has started the new Bundesliga season with seven points from three games, meaning they sit second in the table ahead of Saturday’s clash against table toppers RB Leipzig (15:30 CEST). Heiko Herrlich’s are hoping to continue their great start to the new campaign.

Augsburg weren’t in Bundesliga action last weekend, however, with the second international break of the season interrupting FCA’s great run. “Our style of play is based off a lot of running. We covered an awful lot of ground against Dortmund and Wolfsburg, so it’s good to have had a little rest,” said André Hahn. Some of his teammates are still away with their countries, while the remaining players have made good use of their time in Augsburg. “You can’t do all that much, but we have worked hard during this time.”

Last Friday saw FCA take on 1. FC Heidenheim in a friendly away from home, drawing 1-1. “It was an important test for us, especially for players who have been injured or not had much football so far. It’s good for them to get 90 minutes under their belt. You can’t simulate a match scenario in training,” summed up Hahn.

No fans at the WWK Arena

6,000 fans cheered on FCA during the 2-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund, but Saturday’s game against Leipzig will be played behind closed doors again. “Obviously we were disappointed when we found out the news. We were really looking forward to the next home game with the fans there behind us, but the rates are going up so the authorities had to act accordingly,” revealed Hahn.

Despite this, Hahn is excited for the next matchday. “We have a lot of confidence and we know it’ll be a tough game. We want to give our all so that we can keep the points here. We know it’s possible to win and we are working on our plan for the weekend.” Although no fans will be in the WWK Arena, Hahn knows the players won’t be alone: “We know that our fans will be firing us on in front of their TVs.”
