Additional year until 2025

This week, Ruben Vargas returned to Augsburg at the end of his summer break following his successful participation in the European Championship with the Switzerland national team. After the first training sessions back with his teammates, next on the agenda for the 22-year-old was an appointment in the office. Vargas has signed a new contract with the club and in doing so extended his original deal, which was due to expire in 2024, by a further year until 2025.

“Ruben Vargas has developed brilliantly during his first two seasons with us. We’re convinced that this can continue significantly and therefore offered him a premature extension. Good performances should be rewarded at FC Augsburg,” said Stefan Reuter, FCA sporting director. “It's a great sign from him to have committed to FCA for the long term after a great European Championship with Switzerland.”

“I’m pleased that FCA offered me a premature extension of my contract. It shows how much the club believes that I can help the team in the coming years and that I can continue to develop here. I want to repay this faith through good performances,” said Ruben Vargas.

Ruben Vargas has been at the club since 2019, after joining from FC Luzern. In his first two seasons, Vargas made 63 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists. In two DFB-Pokal outings, he has registered one goal and one assist.
