Herrlich: "Not clinical enough"
Reaction to the defeat in Freiburg

Augsburg lost 2-0 to Freiburg on matchday 26 of the Bundesliga. “We created plenty of chances but sadly we weren’t clinical enough,” said head coach Heiko Herrlich.
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We had lots of chances and better opportunities than Freiburg overall, but we didn’t convert them. We are disappointed about that because this was an unnecessary loss. Freiburg took their first chance of the second half and so we had to come from behind. It won’t affect us that our rivals have picked up points because we are focused on ourselves and will pick up points of our own.”
Daniel Caligiuri: “We had issues at the start of the game, but we got a grip on things after about 20 minutes. The name of the game was scoring the first goal. Whoever did that would win. We defended poorly for their first goal; one of us has to show the energy to get a foot in. It was difficult after the set-back, but we did get our opportunities. We lacked a certain tranquility in front of goal. In terms of football, things looked good going forwards. We had 20 shots, we just weren’t clinical.”
André Hahn: “We didn’t start well today. The opposition goal at the start of the second half was too easy. Something like that can’t happen. I think that the attitude was fine and we fought until the end. But we’ve been conceding goals too easily recently.”
Heiko Herrlich: “We got off to a tough start and had to survive a big chance against us. But we took control after about 20 minutes and had a huge chance ourselves through Bénes, but we didn’t take it. We defended really badly for the opposition’s first goal. That can’t happen. But we also made plenty of chances of our own. Sadly we didn’t show the clinical nature that was so outstanding against Mönchengladbach. We kept trying after going 2-0 down, but Freiburg had things locked down today.”
Christian Streich: “We started really well, we set up with a lot of belief and could have gone in front earlier. We scored at the right moment in the second half, when Augsburg were the better team. But we showed the desire to work hard today, and we got our reward for that. We deserved to win.”
