"Every second I spend on the pitch is a blessing"

After a long spell on the sidelines, Georg Teigl was back on the pitch in the 2-0 defeat away to Hertha BSC. Ahead of Sunday’s home game against 1. FC Köln, the Austrian spoke on FCA Fan-TV about the ongoing relegation battle and the imminent clash with the Billy Goats.

Before Saturday, Georg Teigl’s last appearance for FCA was in mid-September, in a 2-1 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt. In Berlin, he was brought on in the closing stages of the game and even came close to an equaliser, but his deflected shot zipped just wide of the post. "With a bit of luck that might have gone in, that would have been a crazy story," said Teigl some days after the game.

"Every minute, every second I spend on the pitch is a blessing," he declared, "super happy" about his return. "I’ve gone through several rough patches here, but I’ve always bounced back from them." His delight in being brought on was, however, outweighed by the disappointment of losing to Berlin’s ‘Old Lady’. "We were disappointed, we gave an awful lot in the second half," said Teigl, giving his analysis.

Teigl: "As a team, I’m sure we can beat Köln"

With four points from as many games since the restart, the situation remains on edge. Four points is also the distance between FCA and the relegation playoff spot, but a win against Köln on Sunday evening (18:00 CEST kick-off) could see Teigl and Co. take a huge step towards safety. Cologne’s ‘Billy Goats’ may be winless since the restart (two draws, two defeats), but Teigl sees Köln as a force to be reckoned with: "They’re a tough side to play against, very well organised, very determined and full of running," said the 29-year-old, sizing up his next opponents: "They even played really well when they lost to Leipzig the other night."

Nevertheless, Teigl is confident of three points on Sunday. "We all want to be in the Bundesliga again next season and we have a duty to our fans to make that happen," said FCA’s number 34: "If we play as a team, then I’m sure we can beat Köln."
