Luthe: “We’re in a very important phase”

First Team 12.03.2020, 15:55

Goalkeeper Andreas Luthe made his second start of the season in last weekend’s 2-0 loss against Bayern Munich, just two days before his 33rd birthday. He spoke to FCA Fan-TV about the new head coach, the home game against Wolfsburg and their current position.

Although the team were disappointed after the defeat against Bayern, Andreas Luthe was also able to take some positives from the match: “I was happy that I could play on Sunday,” said the now 33-year-old after his second start of the season. Nevertheless, it’s important for the team to stay calm in their current situation.

Heiko Herrlich is a very good coach, who can do a lot with the team

The goalkeeper also spoke about the recent change of coach, “The board have already said that we are in danger of not achieving our goal for the season. I already know Heiko Herrlich from our brief time together at Bochum and I think he’s a very good coach, who can do a lot with the team.”

FCA in an important phase

Luthe believes FC Augsburg are currently in an important phase of their season: “It’s difficult when you play against a very strong opponent, and feel that you’ve played well, but you come away without any points. We have a lot of tough games ahead of us and we need to put together enough firepower in order to pick up the points we need. It’s a very important part of our season.”

Luthe: “We need to believe in our ability”

Wolfsburg are next on the agenda for FCA; another difficult opponent who are fighting for the European places. The goalkeeper praises the team’s spirit and ability as they prepare for the game behind closed doors at the WWK ARENA: “Above all, we need to believe in our own ability. Once we have that, we will be able to perform, despite there not being any fans. Although, of course, it’s much better to play a home game in front of our fans. We’ve picked up lots of points at home so far this season, thanks to the support of the fans. But we have to try and make up for that as a team. If we manage to do this against Wolfsburg, we have a good chance of getting a result.”
