FCA defied the odds and expectations as they fought to a deserved point in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with FC Bayern München in the Allianz Arena. “” said a very pleased FCA head coach, Manuel Baum, regarding the deserved point. Here are the post match thoughts from Tuesday’s Bavarian derby. Equalising goalscorer Felix Götze, who scored his first Bundesliga goal against his former club: “We know that we had to give everything to take something from the match. We are extremely proud to have drawn this game. Of course, it was an amazing feeling to score but I didn’t celebrate it too much because I have a lot to thank FC Bayern for. However, it is still very special to not only score my first Bundesliga goal but to do it here in München. I am really pleased about that.” Andreas Luthe, who made his first start of the Bundesliga season: “If you take something from a match here in Munich, against this Bayern team, then that is significant and shows that the team has played well. Bayern controlled the game but we were able to make the game difficult for them. We are a difficult team to play against we did things in exactly the right way. We have taken a deserved point out of this match.” Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We took quite a few risks against Bayern tonight as we tried to put them under pressure early on and prevent them from controlling the match with their style of play. We played superbly well and have managed to take a point from the match. Tonight’s result will give us a lot of confidence going into our next matches.” Daniel Baier: “You have seen from the first to the last minute that we wanted to take something from tonight’s match. We were bold not only in the tackles but also in our style of play and this helped us to secure a point. I am pleased for Felix that he has scored his first goal in only his second Bundesliga match. If he keeps this up, he will soon have as many goals has me!” Manuel Baum: “If you want to take something from a match against Bayern München, you need luck and courage. We benefited from these two things tonight. We came into the game tonight with the belief that we could take something from the match and we pressed Bayern for the full 90 minutes. We put in a really strong performance tonight.” Bayern München coach Nico Kovac, who drops points for the first time in charge at the Allianz Arena: “We didn’t achieve what we had set out to do in the match. Augsburg played well and made it difficult for us all over the pitch. We didn’t take some of the chances that we created. If we had taken some of our chances today then we would’ve won. The equaliser came from a set-piece, which is always dangerous.”
