Baum: “We would’ve liked to have secured all three points”

First Team 15.12.2018, 21:34
Ahead of a busy week before the start of the Bundesliga winter break, FC Augsburg have secured a valuable point at home to FC Schalke 04. “We’ll take a point but would’ve liked to have taken all three,” admitted FCA head coach Manuel Baum after the match. Here is the post match reaction. Daniel Baier: “We have to accept taking just one point today. We played very well in the first half, didn’t allow anything through and deserved to take the lead. We created chances to double our lead after half-time but unfortunately conceded.  Schalke played better after equalising. We have to accept taking just a point today.” Philipp Max: “We certainly wanted to win today, but so did Schalke. Our aim was to secure all three points and that’s how we approached the match. We played very well in the first half and created chances to double our lead. However, we were not clinical enough with our chances. We’ve rewarded ourselves with a point for our first half performance and want to take the positives from today’s match.” Michael Gregoritsch: “The lead gave us confidence. It’s a shame we were not able to find a second goal. We lacked a bit of precision in the second half. However, you could see in the match that we did everything we could to reward ourselves with a victory. We will work on this.” Rani Khedira: “Overall, we put in a good performance today. You saw how we believed in our strengths and I’m convinced we will secure more points before the winter break. We now want to take points home from Berlin on Tuesday.” Manuel Baum: “After four consecutive defeats, it isn’t easy approaching a match like this. The team deserves compliments as they played well both in and out of possession. We deserved to take the lead and perhaps should’ve been 2-0 ahead. We also had our chances after half-time before Schalke drew level. Unfortunately, we were unable to take them. It isn’t easy to remain stable and positively respond after you concede. However, we managed the situation. We take a point from today but would’ve liked to have taken all three.” FC Schalke 04 head coach Domenico Tedesco: “That was a match of two halves. FCA dominated the first half and we couldn’t do anything to stop them. After the interval we had more control of the ball and managed to equalise. We could’ve stolen the match at the end too.”
