Baum: In the crucial moments, we were not up to scratch

First Team 11.02.2019, 01:07
FC Augsburg have suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat away from home against SV Werder Bremen. “In the decisive situations, we simply were not good enough,” said a disappointed Manuel Baum regarding the match outcome. Here is the post match reaction. Michael Gregoritsch: “The first three goals came from our own individual mistakes. However, we created chances before half-time to get back into the match. We couldn’t take these opportunities. Over the course of the match, we were not able to make the most of our game plan.” Gregor Kobel: “The goals we conceded were our fault. Outside of the goals, I was only called into action on one other occasion. The two goals we conceded in two first half minutes was really disappointing. We are most disappointed with how we didn’t take the chances we created, especially at the end of the first half. We need to hold our heads high, a few small improvement is all it takes to put things right.” Reece Oxford: “Initially, we started the match poorly as we conceded an early goal. Bremen were the better side in the first half as they took their chances. However, we also had our opportunities to score. We pressed to get back into the match at 3-1 but were unable to take our chances.” Fredrik Jensen: “We wanted to secure our third consecutive victory of the week but head home after a heavy 4-0 defeat. It was difficult to get back into the match after conceding three times in the opening half hour. We should’ve scored to make it 2-1 or 3-1 before half-time. It was even more difficult for us after the break.” Manuel Baum: “Initially, our high pressing game worked well. We then conceded three goals and should’ve defended better for each of the goals. What was lacking today was our conviction in attack. Bremen scored three goals from four attempts on goal while we couldn’t score at all. Overall, you could say that we were not up to scratch in the decisive situations today.” Werder Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt: “Augsburg pressed us very well in the opening stages and we had to change formation to cope with it. The goals helped us to settle into the match. We were glad that Jiri Pavlenka was able to make two strong saves shortly before half-time as Augsburg finished the half strongly in attack. In the second half, we played very well and cleverly to seal the points. Overall, we are very pleased with our performance.
